The Little Theatre of Danville has plans for the following productions this season: Performers & Poets August 28-30 featuring Graceland, by Ellen Byron, Directed by Barry D. Haulsee, starring Jane R. Reid and Darci Adams. Also featuring I'm Herbert, by Robert Anderson, Directed by Alan G. Holt, starring Crystal Gregory and Alan G. Holt. The evening includes readings by Danville poet Ronnie Hazelwood. ****************************** Also planned for this season, The Cemetery Club October 2-4, 2009 ** Presented in conjunction with the Danville Area Association for Arts & Humanities ** By Ivan Menchell, Directed by Barry D. Haulsee Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husband's graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life, Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun, and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife's grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt stricken when this nearly breaks Ida's heart.
Dracula, Baby October 30-31, Nov. 1, 2009 Book by Bruce Ronald. Lyrics by John Jakes. Music by Claire Strauch, Directed by Alan G. Holt When the chorus opens the show singing, "Transylvania after dark. Rather grim and rather ghoulish! Walking by ourself is foolish" we know that we're in for an entertaining if not fiendish evening. When Count Dracula sets out for England, intending to make the beautiful young Lucy his 93rd bride, Lucy's future looks pretty anemic. Her principal defenders are Arthur, her milksop fiancé who is so proper that Lucy sometimes worries about him, and Van Helsing, the clumsy professor who is out to thwart the evil vampire. An unexpected ally is the nurse who works in the sanitarium run by Dr. Seward, Lucy's guardian. The nurse, a tough and very good-looking chick, kind of digs that crazy Count Dracula. Count Dracula is a great exponent of the wisdom of evil, advising that, "The man who is pure is generally poor and frightfully sad.... that's why it's good to be bad."
This production has been cancelled!
God's Favorite April 23-25, 2010 By Neil Simon, Directed by Barry D. Haulsee Successful Long Island businessman Joe Benjamin is a modern-day Job with a high-maintenance wife, ungrateful children and wise-cracking household help. Just when it seems it couldn't get any worse, he is visited by Sidney Lipton aka A Messenger from God (and compulsive film buff) with a mission: test Joe's faith and report back to "the Boss". The jokes and Tests of Faith fly fast and furious as Neil Simon spins a contemporary morality tale like no other in this hilarious comedy. All plays are planned for the North Theatre, 629 N. Main Sreet. |
