The Little Theatre of Danville has plans for three productions this season, including: It's A Wonderful Life by James W. Rodgers, Directed by Barry D. Haulsee and Douglas Kendall Adams Dec. 5-7 & 12-14, 2008 The stage version of the classic film by Frank Capra. It tells the saga of George Bailey, the "Everyman" from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descend on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him—by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born—that his has been, after all, a wonderful life. This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter. *** Don't Cry For Me, Margaret Mitchell by Duke Ernsberger and Virginia Cate, Directed by Jane R. Reid Feb. 20-22, Feb. 27-March 1, 2009 Based rather loosely on actual events, the play has legendary Hollywood producer David O. Selznick, screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming sequestered for a solid week in Selznick’s office doing a complete rewrite of the script for “Gone with the Wind.” Assisted only by Peabody, Selznick’s personal secretary, the three men are restricted to eating only peanuts and bananas, which, Selznick claims, will keep their brains working. *** It's Never Too Late by Sumner Arthur Long, Directed by Crystal Gregory and Alice Saunders April 17-19 and 24-26, 2009 A married man in his fifties suddenly learns he's becoming a father again. His last child, a girl, was born 24 years ago and, considering the boob she married, he finds the prospect of another unthinkable. His daughter and son-in-law live with him; she gets up for breakfast at lunchtime and he is curiously addicted to solitaire. It's not only the impending birth that startles him; his previously meek little wife begins to lay down the law. There's to be a nursery, a new bath, and she's to have her own checking account. All plays are planned for the North Theatre, 629 N. Main Sreet. Dates are tentative. |
